When you read as consistently as I do, you end up with a lot of books. If you look around my house, you'll see random little piles of books sprouting in corners here and there. I reeaaallly don't like parting with my books.
One of those piles even goes back decades to my childhood, with appearances by Trixie Belden, Janet Lennon and other mysteries. Wow, ancient history. Has anyone else even heard of those?
In my research to figure out this whole author thing, I went to a lot of other author events, and to support them, bought their books. And in so doing, I picked up and read some books I did NOT especially enjoy. An exception to that is the Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn. What a thrilling, page turner of a book! I'm so excited to see the movie this year - it's gonna be great. I highly recommend this one.
Another exception is the Crown series by Kendare Blake. This is a great series that I have enjoyed following and continue to buy as they come out.
Arg! To write this blog, I picked up a book out of a pile, but the pile fell over and some? one? book(s) fell behind my full six foot tall bookcase. Noooooo! I don't know what fell and do not have the where with all to empty it out to retrieve it. I think it's just going to have to like its new home behind the bookcase. Sorry little book!
So you see the problem. I have had to change my pattern and read ebooks instead. I only buy a paper book if I have already read it and it deserves the limited square footage I have to spare for ever and ever amen. Sad, I know, because I do love the feeling, smell and heft of a book in my hand. And as a Interior Designer (yes, I went to school last year and became a certified interior designer) I can make my random piles of books look very arty and collected cool - but it only goes so far. Then that collected cool vibe will look more like hoarding and we can't go there.
I am beyond ready for my next really good book. What do you recommend? I'd love to hear what is square footage worthy in your world.
